    KDE 2.2 Now In Woody?
Contributed by MBCook on Wednesday, November 14 @ 01:55:05 GMT

Hi all, I was just apt-get update/upgradeing my Woody box and it's downloading all sorts of KDE stuff. The thing is the version string says 2.2.blah. Could it be that Woody finally gets KDE 2.2?

alp: Looks to me like the version in woody is now 2.2.1. Release 2.2.2 of KDE is expected in around a week or so, a little later than originally planned. As it's mostly a bug-fix / security-fix release, what are the odds 2.2.2 will make into woody? Should a package with known security issues and bugs be considered more stable than a package in which those bugs have been fixed?

It is worth noting that not all of KDE 2.2.1 has made it in to testing right so far. Notably absent are the kdebase-crypto package and possibly several others. I guess as long as you don't mind running KDE without crypto you should be ok, otherwise you still have to wait. Anyway, much thanks goes out to Ivan for your hard work maintaining the KDE packages.

It seems like these 9 packages and maybe some of their dependencies are still on 2.1.x:

    kdepalettes 2.1.1-8

    kdebase-crypto 4:

    kdepim-dev 4:2.1.1-4

    kdesdk 2.1.1-8

    kdemultimedia-dev 4:2.1.1-4

    kdesdk-scripts 2.1.1-8

    kdepim-libs 4:2.1.1-4

    kdestudio 2.0.0-3

To me this looks like this won't affect the normal desktop user who don't code ...

It also is available for the Alpha. The Alpha

has not had a Debian package for KDE available since the 1.1.2 version.

I've been keenly interested in kde recently. It's really been in the news of late.

So I went off and apt-get install kdebase

It's cool, but I want to install the qnix theme that I found on I can't make it though. configure fails with the message:

    checking for KDE... configure: error:

in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.

So, check this please and use another prefix!

    What's the correct prefix? i've tried /usr and /usr/share

Also, why is it that my konqueror shows 2 copies of the toolbar
