We’re all thankful for the amount of work you’re putting on KDE.

It might be useful to have a constant link to the latest KDE/XF86/Whatever-package-user-want-so-bad-they-get-angry like Brandon’s email explaining the situation with the package so that people who don’t read the mailing lists and all they hear is “Mandrake got KDE 3” don’t go flaming developers on DP.

I see DP as a debian news site and I’d personnally like to see it stay that way. I hate it when things turn sour in the discussion forum. The articles I enjoy the most are those when people post insightful or interesting messages in response to the question or just to add crispy details.

I know it sounds utopian but not that much because there are some of those articles almost all the time.

    Sincerely,

    -Oli

I’m glad to see it end this way.

Please folks, don’t forget : We’re all humans, not borg – and so we’re all different. Daniels day just wasn’t like my day which wasn’t like your day. And he knows things which I don’t, and the other way round. But is this a problem ?

Yes, I think we need a good information system which provides easy access to frequently asked questions and related stuff. But I’d never assume someone sucks on purpose (at least up from a certain age), which leads to the conclusion the asking person probably has reasons to ask that question. Some simply don’t know about IRC, Usenet or other sophisticated(?) communication channels, or have cultural or personal reasons (“What do you mean whith ‘No HTML mail’ ?”).

But even if someone has given a politically incorrect answer, resist the temptation to flame back. Just remind him or her about her (probabply) wrong behavior and find a solution.

If all this may sound strange to you, try to see it the debian way : The whole world is a gigantic Debian system; and everyone is a .deb with other suggests and dependencies. Don’t force them, just –provide help 🙂

I know you’re not in this to manage people’s expectations… But there is a difference between

having ‘attitude’ (it’s cool to be angry-cool

cuz you kick ass and everyone knows it) and being

a jerk (angry-angry people only see the anger and

not how kick ass productive you are)…

If you took a step back wrote a 2 minute

FAQ and then said go to folks that bug you

go RTF-FAQ (or add a link to it to your sig or something)… You wouldn’t have a lynch mob

after you for every post on DP… Anyway…

    All the best,

    -Ironstorm

Q: Why won’t XFree 4.2 and KDE3 make it into Woody

    A: see http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2002/debian-devel-200204/msg01343.html

Q: Are there any unoffical KDE3 packages?

yes, see here: http://calc.cx/kde.txt and don’t report bugs on them, they UNOFFICAL not in

Sid or the deb bugs system.
