Ive run Gentoo for some time and replaced my main Debian box with it. all of those litte speed increments add making it worth it to me to compile a system from scratch, and its a K7.

the prolbem with Gentoo is that not alot of care has been taken with the packages.

the packages in Debian are very well tested, and THAT and the fact that Debian is non-comercial are imho are the major benifits to using Debian. (woody is ready when its stable)

If people dident want to do that with Linux why has Gentoo become one of the top 10 Linux distros in sutch a short amount of time? appearantaly many many people apear to be looking for a 5-10% speed increace, and they are willing to compile software for days to do it.
