|What to seem to forget or maybe you don’t know is that we only get the new medicines after 5, 10 or 20 years the medicine was well tested.
Gee you wanna sell a non-tested medicine to Americans, the most litigation happy people on earth? You’d get sued into oblivion. Also a good portion of the long testing period is mandated by the government, so really don’t blame the companies blame big government…That is if you think properly testing medical research is worthy of blame. Debian has a ridiculously long testing period relative to what it is and it’s not doing to it to sell the old stuff for a while first. So you advocate very long testing periods for unix clones but not for medicine that people’s lives actually depend on? Perhaps you should review your priorities.
Also since no company has a monopoly on biomed research if one company kept trying to sell some old crappy medicine to milk it for a big roi then some other company would pass it with something better or cheaper. That’s why technological breakthroughs happen so fast under capitalism.
Can it happen under socialism or some other economic model? ya sure it could. But it wouldn’t happen at the dizzying willynilly pace of advance that capitalism spurs on.
