    well personally i think the installer is fine the way it is now.

    but the average joe user wants a graphical installer. ya sure we can say well fuck average joe, but if promoting free software is the idea then you have to make something joe average likes, otherwise don’t complain when non-free is everywhere.

    Autodetection is more important than GUI installers. (Score: 0)

    I don’t care about the installer being text mode or GUI. If I had to choose, I’d probably pick text mode because it already exists and it works for what it is supposed to do.

    My main concern is hardware autodetection. I genuinely want a Debian GNU/Linux system I can install without having to know the Linux driver name for my ethernet cards, for example. It’s not a major problem but I would much prefer autodetection and asking me if there’s a conflict versus asking me straight off. I don’t know how to write autodetection code, but I’m willing to help an effort working on autodetection Debian GNU/Linux installers. If anyone has a pointer to such a work in progress and in need of some feedback, please point me to them.
