KNOPPIX - Run fully-featured woody from CD
Contributed by royal-ts on Saturday, May 25 @ 11:42:54 BST

"Knoppix" is a complete GNU/Linux distribution based on the upcoming "woody" release of Debian GNU/Linux. Knoppix runs from a bootable CD and requires no installation on the target machine. Features include automagic hardware detection and a fully useable KDE installaton. Knoppix is not just a toy but useful rescue system.

distros like knoppix and progeny make it so easy to use and install, but yet debian never changed its installer. why?

I believe having seen a piece of software, that does a "snapshot" of your current system to create a live cd out of it. Is this true and if so, where can I grab that?

Does anyone happen to know of a bootable CD with some form of LaTeX on? I've been looking for a while but not found any.

I'm wondering if anyone could help me with writing this image to a cd-r. I'm using Nero, but everytime I try to write it to a cd, the cd comes out unusable. (it has some data on it, but I can't view it, neither does it boot). I've wasted two cds already.

When I use a nifty little program called daemon-tools to watch the content of the image everything seems to work fine and I can browse the image-file. It seems something goes wrong in the burning process.

Erm... what's the root password in Knoppix? I don't like the idea that someone could get in my PC as root while I'm connected to the internet 😉
