    New version of apt-cacher
Contributed by jonoxer on Saturday, May 25 @ 11:48:44 BST

    Package Management
Some time ago Debian Planet announced the release of apt-cacher, a simple CGI script designed to provide local caching of Debian packages for installation on multiple machines.

There has extensive work since to make apt-cacher simpler to set up and use, several minor bugs have been squashed and there is now a new web site. The software is not yet included in the official Debian distribution however unofficial packages are available for download.

This looks like apt-proxy but done as a CGI.

    What's better about apt-cacher then?

There is some effort to rewrite apt-proxy probably in Perl (it's currently in sh :)) with contributions from Jason Boxman who wrote aptcached. Do we really need this many proxies?

You can find out more by joining the list on sourceforge or dropping by #apt-proxy
