    New Spanish primary mirror
Posted on Thursday, May 09 @ 19:00:04 BST

    /dev/random
For a while now, our Spanish users were discontent with their official Debian mirror site, ftp.es.debian.org, mainly because its bandwidth was limited to lowly ~ 10kb/s.

I am happy to announce that this has now been fixed 🙂 Thanks to the effort of Eduardo Diaz and David Martinez, a new server has been set up (in Madrid, no longer in Vigo), and it's no longer limited at such measly speeds -- I pulled a file at 750kb/s a few hours ago from over here, it might very well be much better from within Spain.

Still not too much of an improvement for those who use ISPs that don't peer at decent speeds with RedIRIS/GEANT, but oh well. 🙂

And the obligatory access method list:

    APT sources.list lines examples:

deb http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
    deb http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian-non-US unstable/non-US main non-free
    deb-src http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
    deb-src http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian-non-US unstable/non-US main contrib non-free

Well a big thanks goes to Eduardo Diaz and David Martinez then. I live in Spain and always had to get my debs from servers outside of Spain due to horrid speeds... Time to update my apt sources file and give it a try.

I agree with you, he is not very polite, if that is what you mean. He says the maximum allowed users is 10, so it's very difficult to connect to this new ("fast") server.

That is true, but I didn't think it could be very interesting to someone not living in spain. My apologies.

That's what I mean, yes. And I have to admit I could have expressed myself a bit less 'agressive'... 😉

If I get this right, you hit the 10 user limit. I've told the admins to up it a bit, but you should be using HTTP anyway.

Please send your complaints to ender@debian.org.

The mirror is now happily scratching its hard disk...it's interesting how people is avid of Debian 2.2r6 ISOs. 🙂

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Y también gracias al antiguo servidor, que estaba en la Universidad de Vigo. También nos acordamos de vosotros y os agradecemos el esfuerzo que habéis hecho en favor de Debian.
