Posted on Tuesday, April 24 @ 19:51:05 BST

The latest and greatest thing to hit the Debian scene in recent months, is now shipping. Yep you've guessed it, Progeny 1.0, please support these guys by heading over to their shop and buying yourself a copy. Remember many of the people who work on Progeny are also Debian developers so Progeny helps us all.

What? What's this doing at the top of the page? The product was released almost THREE WEEKS AGO. You even have an "evaluation" thread far down on the page...

Well I purchased mine this morning and I already got an email telling me they shipped it. Even though I still plan to run Debian unstable on my desktop box, Ill throw down the 50 bucks to support Debian developers and get the cool box.

Sending Ca$h To Debian? (Score: 0)

I know that many Debian CD sellers allow you to contribute to Debian/SPI (Software in the Public Interest) when ordering. But this leads me to two questions:

    1. What CONTROLS are in place to ensure that the CD seller doesn't just "pocket" the contribution intended for Debian/SPI? After all, it's going on the same credit card bill with the CD purchase, and the vendor's books are up to him or her. Are they required to provide any confirmation that their hands stay off the money? This is particularly pertinent when my Debian donation might be MORE than the cost of the CD's ($6-$20)!

    2. Why, on SPI's own donation page at, do they NOT accept credit cards, or at least PayPal? They only take checks or wire transfers. Seems rather counterproductive to me...

    Any ideas?
