    Progeny releases Beta 3
Posted on Saturday, February 03 @ 15:36:21 GMT

Progeny beta 3 has appeared on in the whee hours. Since this release follows Beta 2 so closely, it can be assumed that it is some sort of a hotfix release, but the release notes don't really allude to that. Remember...this is beta software.

UPDATED: Pretzelgod tells me hes workign on a 'kickass' partioner for the installer. Keep up the good work guys. And don't forget to contribute it back to Debian! (rob)

The install is a little more polished, found and configured all my hardware and seems to run faster than Beta 2, however it did bomb twice when installing the pkgs on final setup. The last time it did install everything that I had selected and booted properly.

I installed the latest KDE 2.1 beta and everything seems A o'kay.

The installer doesn't work on two of the tree computers I tried it.

The first one, a Pentium 166 was booted with a boot disk and after reporting a failure for finding the mouse it stopped working. I don't exactly remember where it stopped ;-)... but I think it was the same problem as described below.

The second one, a Pentium III stopped working after X booted, leaving we with a nice grey screen (ugh).

    Are these known problems?

Title says it all. I'm looking for KDE2.1 for Progeny, but not all of debian unstable. What do I do?

Oh, installed (nearly) flawlessly on my Storm Linux 2.0.6 AMD K6-2 450 w/ a funny trident on-board video card!

Progeny installation from an apt source certainly is NOT better than Debian installation. I understand that one might have to know what software one is installing and get used to that. However, there are very few hints and the modifications done by Progeny from apt source install did more harm.

I'm also going to test the Zero-Floppy installation, which I HOPE will be better, and perform all that which they "say" it does, so far this Debian Modification has not convinced me that it is any better.
