| And why is dselect so tedious? Seems pretty straightforward to me. Update package list, select packages, install — done. What’s so hard about that?
If people can’t use dselect, they should be using the Simple method of packages installation (which could perhaps be improved) instead of Advanced.
But maybe there could be an option of:
Advanced (dselect) <-- tell 'em what it is
End (base only) <-- people can choose from there.
The only problem I see is that the base install is too basice, and we are going to have a lot of people complaining/crying for help and support after they select that option.
One thing might be to rename these categories to encourage people to use them — specifically encourage more people to use the “Simple” install and improve tasksel so that it provides more options and desktop configurations. This would cut down on the support requests and probably improve Newbies first-time reactions to Debian.
