Any word yet on whether KDE 2.2 will go into Woody before it's frozen? (Hint: 'yes' would be the strongly preferred answer 🙂

I understand from a message I found in the debian-kde archives that 2.2 will definitely go into Woody, since the freeze there is not a hard freeze, but a kinda-friendly flexible 3-phase freeze. That's good news.

KDE can be downloaded in its entirity by apt-geting "kde" (okay plus kdebase-crypto and kdelibs3-crypto). AFAIK there is no such dummy package for Gnome 1.4, let alone 1.4.1 (beta). For 1.4.1 Bug-buddy release is too early (2.0.1 instead of 2.0.6) and there is no Panelmm - but is anybody interested in releasing such a package, even unofficially. If someone can point me to good docs I'd be interested (everything I've found so far says if you don't know how to do you probably shouldn't do it).

    Comments/Ideas very welcome...

KDE 2.2 and GDM (Score: 0)
by Anonymous on Saturday, August 18 @ 02:07:02 BST

One thing about KDE 2.2 that pis*ed me off is that it requires removal of GDM (replaces with KDM --- yeah, whoopie, but I don't care for anything to be shoved down my throat). So, if you want KDE + GDM, you can then reinstall GDM.

GDM, though, will ask for removal of KDM (ok, maybe GNOME isn't a saint either? KDM and GDM should exist peacefully) and KDE.

It is my understanding KDEBase and any other apps are not removed --- just the KDE empty package. So with GDM installation: Tah Dah, KDE2.2 with GDM (and GNOME, of course).

i can't even believe this is being posted on debianplanet! debian users are supposed to be the smart ones who know unix. kde is a pretty gui piece of crap that no unix user would ever use. get rid of this bloatware and use wm2, like a real man.
