Install mrtgutils and put this in your /etc/mrtg.cfg:

    Target[yourhostname.eth0]: `/usr/bin/mrtg-ip-acct`
    Target[yourhostname.eth0]: 600
    YSize[yourhostname.eth0]: 180
    MaxBytes[yourhostname.eth0]: XXXXXX
    Title[yourhostname.eth0]: yourhostname: eth0
    PageTop[yourhostname.eth0]: Traffic Analysis for eth0

    Interface: eth0 via /proc/net/dev

    Max speed: X Mbit/s

Fill in the Xs and yourhostname. Tune the other things to your liking according to the reference file (it’s somewhere in /usr/doc/mrtg).

For web display, use mrtgindx.cgi from the mrtg-contrib package (this one has to be tweaked massively, sucks).

Feel free to e-mail me if you’d like more examples.
