Got that latest or greatest scoop? Perhaps you have some important news for the Debian community? Submit a news item!

Or perhaps you’ve written a rather ground breaking insight into some aspect of Debian and you feel compelled to share it with others? Knock up a longer editorial article and send it to the editors.

General feedback should be sent to staff@debianplanet.org

The place to get help on a Debian problem (after reading docs) or to just chat and chill is #debian on irc.oftc.net.

Many of the Debian Planet staff live there so pop by and say hello.

Debian Planet also has its own channel on the same network called #debianplanet.

    Severe server problems
Submitted by robster on Monday, October 30, 2000 – 15:58
Debian Planet’s server has been suffering from problems since yesterday evening. This has been due to the fact that a Mandrake 7.2 dist was available from mirrors.uklinux.net which is on the same server and has thousands of people across the world downloaded it the traffic caused problems involving routing and most recently MySQL crashing. Hopefully all the problems are now fixed. Thanks should goto Lance from uklinux.net for braving the elements and driving to the noc and restarting the services locally.

    DukeOfURL reviews Libranet
Submitted by agl on Sunday, October 29, 2000 – 13:49
DukeOfURL has added a review of Libranet. Libranet is a Debian based distribution that is moving towards to easy-to-use market.
Everyone else is trying on Debian these days, so why not Libranet? This UNIX veteran beams brightly with many rarely-seen features like graphical configuration and excellent 3rd-party driver support, and brings a new level of usability to a distribution based on Debian.

    The World Where You Live
Submitted by Netsnipe on Saturday, October 28, 2000 – 16:29
Kr0n, a member of the Debian Portuguese (BR) translation team has asked us about publicity for their translation project to make users and potential volunteers alike aware of them. However, before we start to single out individual Debian translation projects for publicity, we at DebianPlanet would like to publish a feature article to inform our readers how Debian is making inroads in becoming this planet’s preferred Linux distribution. So in order to summarize the current status of the projects, inform people about their teams and their future goals, we’d like anyone who is involved in a Debian Internationalisation project to email us at staff@debianplanet.org so that we can contact you for interviews, details and weblinks. If you know of people involved in this please pass this message onto them or their contacts onto us. Thanks.

Submitted by ressu on Friday, October 27, 2000 – 21:29
According to our recent poll, and the comments on the polls. It seams that people DO want to get rid of non-free.. but not just yet…
