Many of the Debian Planet staff live there so pop by and say hello.

2.2r2 will be out right after these messages…
Submitted by ressu on Monday, November 20, 2000 – 19:56
Anthony Towns mentioned today that potato r2 will be out when the showstopper list has first been created and then cleared. It seems that the new revision wont come out so soon after all, although Anthony mentioned that as soon as the showstopper list was clear r2 would be released.

here is the original mail for this

    Handy packaging commands
Submitted by Anonymous on Monday, November 20, 2000 – 18:21
Yep, so you’ve heard all about Debian’s super-duper packaging system, how it’s the best thing that ever happened in the Linux package manager world, etc., etc.. But how do you actually *use* the powerful tools?

Netsnipe: Update (10:22GMT) – Sorry I’ve been out of the loop recently, too busy organising for my school formal and rebuilding my box. It would seem like a record number of users from .rpm-based distros have just converted to Debian and asking about the magnificent .deb system on #debian. So within this week I’ll have my guide to Debian package management and a review of the coolest tools up. So hold on a little longer!

    Debian-user archive goodies
Submitted by Brad on Sunday, November 19, 2000 – 09:09
Every once in a while, someone will post something useful to the debian-user mailing list. So why not go read about TrueType fonts in X4 or Writing a sources.list line. Or read the discussions on Editors, Wildcard Renaming of Files, or X for Windows. And this is just from the past week!

    New French irc channel
Submitted by Zippo on Saturday, November 18, 2000 – 22:15
There is a new French irc channel on irc.openproject.net. : #debian-france.
Dedicated to the French speaking Debian users.

If there are many country specific Debian channels perhaps we could setup an IRC section with details about them?

    Article: Quickstart guide to kernel-package
Submitted by robster on Saturday, November 18, 2000 – 21:02
One of the things that drew me to and kept me loving Debian was the kernel-package tools so I decided to write a quick article to increase awareness of this wonderful unique tool and to give you a quick intro into its basic usage. The article can be read here. Enjoy.

By the pricking of my thumbs….
Submitted by scav on Friday, November 17, 2000 – 15:26
… something wicked happened resolving ftp.uk.debian.org/ftp

Not exactly Shakespeare, but equally confusing! I get the “something wicked” message now and again during apt-get. I can usually ping and
even ftp to a site when this happens, but no apt-get.

Last time, it went away after I re-booted but that might be a
coincidence. Anyone know what exact sort of wickedness I
should be cleansing from my Debian system when this happens?

rob: i’ve had this at times, anyone help us with this wicked problem?
