Making apt-getable CD images from an apt-proxy mirror?
Submitted by Anonymous on Monday, November 19, 2001 – 23:37
A friend wants to try Debian, so I’ve offered (maybe prematurely) to burn them the “markybob” netinst CD and the packages from my apt-proxy cache.
This would also be a good way of rebuilding my machines after a disk failure.
My apt-proxy cache is currently 882Mb, so it won’t all fit on 1 CD.
I assume the problems are splitting the pools directory structure in two and making two sets of package descriptions.
I remember buying daily “unstable” CDs from www.cheapbytes.com before I had an unmetered dial-up, so I’m hoping this is possible! (They only seem to do “testing” nowadays)

    Look at the package debian-cd…

    xyzzy% apt-cache show debian-cd
    Package: debian-cd
    Priority: optional
    Section: contrib/admin
Description: Tools for building (Official) Debian CD set

This package was formerly called YACS (for Yet Another CD Script).

It’s the official way of building CD since the potato release.

Its goal is to facilitate the creation of customized Debian CD set.

You will need unzip for building i386 images and lha for m68k images.

Any particular reason you chose this particular string of characters?

“xyzzy”+enter+shift was the cheat code for Windows 3.1 minesweeper (the top… right, I believe… pixel of the screen would turn white when you were over a clear block).

    Just curious…
