DebianThis is old news, but it has been included in this week’s DWN so its best if we mention it here too. On the 20th of August it was announced that OpenOffice.org packages had been uploaded to contrib. However this is no indication that the packages will enter the archive, they may be rejected by the ftpmasters following testing and examination. Therefore the packages are not yet available in the archive.

The story exists now. It’s cool it’s packaged, it’s cool it should be in contrib soon, but it’s not cool that it has to go into contrib and hence be not officialy part of Debian. If only there were free Java implementations that didn’t suck even more than the non-free ones. =)
